If you use note-taking app Evernote, Skitch will fit nicely into your workflow as the app syncs with your Evernote notes so you can fully edit and manipulate annotated images across all the devices that you use. Say you annotate a screenshot for a web design project in Skitch on your desktop. While you’re out, you have an idea, so you launch Skitch on your phone, move all the arrows around, change the colors and then share the new image with your designer. Surprisingly enough, the new version also saw the removal of some pretty useful features, like the ability to take a screenshot of the Skitch app, in addition to certain sizing, color and font options.
Gone is the ability to resize images by just grabbing the corners of the window, for example. Gone, too, is the ability to minimize the app to the menu bar. Nor can you choose the file format for your screenshots anymore (it’s. png or nothing), and the magnifying glass that lets you make sure your screenshots were pixel-perfect while you were taking them is gone, too. The Drag Me Bar is a small tab that protrudes at the bottom of the Skitch window. However, there is one thing that’s interesting – the Drag Me Bar. Honestly, the only impressive thing about Skitch is the tight Evernote integration, which isn’t surprising at all since both are owned by the same company. Shapes include rectangles, (the patented) rounded rectangles, circles and straight lines. And I want neither the white borders nor the shadows, but of course, there is no way to remove them. There are only three sizes to choose from and just eight color choices.

Skitch is not a very customizable application, and as a Windows users who is used to flexibility and plenty of choices, this Mac application failed to impress me. The selection will become pixelated and unreadable or unrecognizable, allowing you to share your Skitch note with others without revealing any unwanted information. When you’re working with a photo, snapshot, or screenshot, just tap the Pixelate button and click and drag your mouse across the part of the image that you would like to obscure. There is a new Pixelate feature that helps to obscure sensitive or personal information in an image. Cropping the image to include only the critical aspects is also possible. You can also use a marker and make freehand shapes or outline an object. You can take screenshots with Skitch and then annotate it by adding text, arrows, highlights and various shapes to “get your point across”.
